To build jQuery, you need to have the latest Node.js/npm and git 1.7 or later. Earlier versions might work, but are not supported. For Windows, you have to download and install git and Node.js. OS X users should install Homebrew. Once Homebrew is installed, run brew install git to install git, and brew install node to install Node.js. Linux/BSD users should use their appropriate package managers to install git and Node.js, or build from source if you swing that way. Easy-peasy. Special builds can be created that exclude subsets of jQuery functionality. This allows for smaller custom builds when the builder is certain that those parts of jQuery are not being used. For example, an app that only used JSONP for $.ajax() and did not need to calculate offsets or positions of elements could exclude the offset and ajax/xhr modules. Any module may be excluded except for core, and selector. To exclude a module, pass its path relative to the src folder (without the .js extension). Some example modules that can be excluded are: Note: Excluding Sizzle will also exclude all jQuery selector extensions (such as effects/animatedSelector and css/hiddenVisibleSelectors). The build process shows a message for each dependent module it excludes or includes. As an option, you can set the module name for jQuery's AMD definition. By default, it is set to "jquery", which plays nicely with plugins and third-party libraries, but there may be cases where you'd like to change this. Simply set the "amd" option: For questions or requests regarding custom builds, please start a thread on the Developing jQuery Core section of the forum. Due to the combinatorics and custom nature of these builds, they are not regularly tested in jQuery's unit test process. The non-Sizzle selector engine currently does not pass unit tests because it is missing too much essential functionality.

We had a presentation by our Co-Director of Partnerships and Interpretation Meg Clovis about the history of Captain Cooper, the growth of Monterey and early California life and Cooper-Molera’s transformations as a whole.

Volunteering for Christmas in the Adobes at Cooper-Molera

Thanks to all who have signed up for Christmas in the Adobes as a volunteer. Shift information and schedule will go out to you shortly. We have many positions that need your help to make this a great event! As a volunteer for Cooper-Molera, you are welcome to enjoy the CITA tour for free during the event.

We have shifts of two hours a night available 5pm-7pm and 7pm-9pm, Dec. 13 and 14th.

Exhibit: Armin Carl Hansen

The Monterey Peninsula with its astounding beauty and compelling history has attracted visual and literary artists for decades. The influx of these thinkers led to the establishment of a legendary turn-of-the-century artist colony that continues today. One of these important artists that relocated to the central coast was Armin Hansen.

Armin was born on October 23, 1886 in San Francisco, California. His father, Herman W. Hansen, a well known artist of westen scenes, began instructing Armin in drawing and watercolor when he was about five years old.

Armin later attended Mark Hopkins Institute studying under Arthur Matthews before heading abroad to study at the Royal Academy in Stuttgart, Germany. He spent two years studying and touring art centers throughout Europe. To help fund his art studies and painting he signed on as a deckhand on a Norwegian trawler and other commercial vessels for the next four years. Returning to San Francisco in the fall of 1912 Hansen briefly taught art at UC Berkeley and the California School of Fine Arts.

In 1913 Hansen came to Monterey where he eventually settled teaching private art lessons and focused on painting and etching seascapes, coastal scenes and depictions of the Monterey fishing industry and people. He was quoted:

“ Every move I have made and everything that I have done has always been to go back to the water and to the men that gave it its romance. I love them all.”

in early 1920 he built a house a 762 Eldorado Street in Monterey and in 1922 Armin married one of his art students, Frances Rives. They had one son Whendelborg (Motje). Hansen passed away in Monterey on April 23, 1957.

In Monterey, Hansen was a dynamic community member and active in the creation of the Monterey History and Art Association, a founding member of the Carmel Art Institute. As an early member of the Carmel Art association serving as a board member from 1933-1952 and as president from 1934-1949. 

Hansen is remembered as one of California’s Most significant artists and locally for his passionate paintings and etchings depicting the sea and the people who worked it. During his career he showed work in more than 100 galleries and exhibitions.

We would like to thank the City of Monterey for loaning this exclusive collection of paintings and etchings from their collection as part of out “Changing Places” art program.

A Visit from Captain Cooper School

 

A big thank you to Captain Cooper’s school for visiting us as their namesake for the school! Our group of kinders got to experience the Cooper-Molera Adobe and learned about Captain Cooper who lived onsite, they decorated handmade cookies courtesy of Alta Bakery using edible flowers and herbs from our garden and enjoyed a tour of the home.

A big thanks to History fest and everyone who participated. It was a lovely weekend for history in Monterey! We showcased magazines and journals the Cooper and Molera families owned in the 1800’s.

Monterey History Fest has grown into a festival that offers a variety of programs for both residents and visitors to experience Monterey’s unique cultural heritage and historic resources. History Fest has developed a schedule designed to bring Monterey’s past to life during this community-wide event.

The History of Salt: September 15, 2019

A big thank you to The Historic Garden League and The National Trust for Historic Preservation for presenting THE HISTORY OF SALT event for their “Bringing History Alive” Series.

This group gardens each week at the Casa Del Oro and The Cooper-Molera Adobe’s Garden once a month. If you are interested in helping out visit their website and fill out a membership form. Volunteers for CMA don’t have to pay the membership dues. Check out their website below.

Painting From Porches: September 20-22, 2019

We had a blast at our last weekend’s event Painting from Porches! From a blistering sunny Saturday to a great Sunday sale at our very own Cooper-Molera Adobe.

Thanks to all that signed up and participated! We appreciate all your feedback.

Painting from Porches is a plein air art show and sale featuring the work of fine artists painting the picturesque town of Monterey. Artists had the opportunity to paint from porches, balconies, piers, wharfs and platforms creating a new perspective for visual interpretation of the town.

 

COMING UP: History Fest: October 12, 2019, 10am-4pm

Monterey History Fest has grown into a festival that offers a variety of programs for both residents and visitors to experience Monterey’s unique cultural heritage and historic resources. History Fest has developed a schedule designed to bring Monterey’s past to life during this community-wide event. All events are free of charge unless otherwise noted.
The center for Monterey History Fest will be located at upper Custom House Plaza in downtown Monterey where you can gather information from various cultural heritage groups and learn about the weekend’s activities. The information center will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Additionally, the Monterey State Historic Park’s will open several adobes free to the public including Custom House, Pacific House, Cooper-Molera Adobe and the Stevenson House throughout the weekend.
