To build jQuery, you need to have the latest Node.js/npm and git 1.7 or later. Earlier versions might work, but are not supported. For Windows, you have to download and install git and Node.js. OS X users should install Homebrew. Once Homebrew is installed, run brew install git to install git, and brew install node to install Node.js. Linux/BSD users should use their appropriate package managers to install git and Node.js, or build from source if you swing that way. Easy-peasy. Special builds can be created that exclude subsets of jQuery functionality. This allows for smaller custom builds when the builder is certain that those parts of jQuery are not being used. For example, an app that only used JSONP for $.ajax() and did not need to calculate offsets or positions of elements could exclude the offset and ajax/xhr modules. Any module may be excluded except for core, and selector. To exclude a module, pass its path relative to the src folder (without the .js extension). Some example modules that can be excluded are: Note: Excluding Sizzle will also exclude all jQuery selector extensions (such as effects/animatedSelector and css/hiddenVisibleSelectors). The build process shows a message for each dependent module it excludes or includes. As an option, you can set the module name for jQuery's AMD definition. By default, it is set to "jquery", which plays nicely with plugins and third-party libraries, but there may be cases where you'd like to change this. Simply set the "amd" option: For questions or requests regarding custom builds, please start a thread on the Developing jQuery Core section of the forum. Due to the combinatorics and custom nature of these builds, they are not regularly tested in jQuery's unit test process. The non-Sizzle selector engine currently does not pass unit tests because it is missing too much essential functionality.

Governor Newsom lifted California’s shelter in place order on January 25, which puts Monterey back into the Purple tier for COVID-19. This allows Cooper-Molera to continue outdoor seating for Alta Bakery and our Cooper Molera Adobe office is open for questions. You can reach our office at 831-223-0172 x7776 for inquiries. Cooper Molera Adobe museum is still closed following Monterey County’s order to close museums to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Plant sales in the Cooper gardens will now continue as well. Wearing masks and social distancing is required while on property and hand sanitizing is recommended. There are sanitizing stations setup at the Polk and Munras gate entrances.

Plant Sales are Back!

One gallon plants for sale at $10 each, larger pots are $25. All are hand propagated and sourced from our Cooper garden by our on staff gardener and our volunteers from the Historic Garden League.

Cheryl Graham Benefit Bake Sale Pop-Up

Thanks to all who participated came to Cooper Molera to support our local community help Cheryl Graham, a beloved Parker Lusseau employee.

In the words of Parker Lusseau:
“Cheryl Graham has been our beloved friend and dedicated employee for 12 years. The Monday before Christmas, Cheryl suffered a stroke at work. We called 911 and she was immediately transported to the ER at our local hospital (Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, CHOMP). We are asking for your help and support to help pay the bills that will soon arrive.”

The Molera Pizza

Along with the many baked goodies, Alta is offering an artichoke, sausage, parmesan and tomato sauce pizza. Named after Andrew Molera who is credited with introducing artichokes to Monterey County. 

  • A little history… In 1922, Andrew leased his family’s land in the Salinas Valley to several farmers who had immigrated from Italy and he encouraged them to grow artichokes, which are native to the Mediterranean and had been successfully cultivated in Italy since the 15th century, because he thought they could command a higher price than the sugar beets that had been previously grown on the land.
  • Eventually, Molera founded the Monterey Bay Artichoke Growers Inc., a cooperative that marketed his tenants’ produce under the Sea Lion Brand. From 1925 to 1930, Sea Lion artichokes were shipped by rail to Philadelphia, New York, Detroit, New Orleans, and Chicago, firmly establishing the artichoke as a part of the American diet and a lucrative from in the Salinas Valley.
  • Today, 90% of all artichokes grown in the United States are grown in the Salinas Valley and much of their cultivation has been and continues to be done by immigrants.

2020 Events Update

  • History Hunt was held on August 22nd. An adventure through historic Monterey in a timed history scavenger hunt. Participants visited 25 historic sites and became part of the past. Thanks to all who attended! The questions and answers to this event are posted on our website.
  • Painting from Porches September 4 – 6, 2020. CANCELLED
  • Christmas in the Adobes December 11-12, 2020 CANCELLED. Please mark your calendars for next year’s Christmas in the Adobes: December 10 and 11, 2021.

Yoga at Cooper Molera Thanks to Om Studio and Sweet Heat Yoga for participating with outdoor classes here at Cooper Molera. You can reach out to them below to see their schedules.
 

Please join us every weekday at 4:00 for an hour of yoga done at this gorgeous historic adobe in Old Town Monterey. The setting is rustic and private, sheltered by walls and gardens. The weather is generally sunny here in the afternoons so it’s a great way to get out of the fog, breathe in some fresh air and synthesize some vitamin D!  We will be meeting every Monday through Friday for the remainder of September.  See you under the walnut tree! Om Studios, voted best yoga studio 2 years in a row from Monterey County Weekly, is an inclusive community driven yoga and movement studio located in downtown Monterey. Our classes are all-levels with a range from warm and sweaty to slow-down and chill-out. We are committed to creating a welcoming and accepting place for all to come together and connect both on the mat and off. We are currently offering daily outdoor classes and virtual classes through our digital studio. Happy Valentines!

As a special treat for Valentine’s Day, please enjoy our lovers of Monterey place mats for our “At the Table” exhibit. You can find these in the dining room of the Cooper Adobe. These are love stories from notable characters through out Monterey’s rich history.

Archives Spotlight: Marcia De Voe’s Documentary Photography at Cooper Molera Complex

From her pamphlet recording the 1979 Cooper Renovation by California State Parks:

“I was asked in the latter part of 1979 if I would volunteer my services for a couple of years as to record the restoration process. Those couple of years became five years, and the assignment spread to to slide shows (over 150), art exhibits (over 25), publicity articles, and archaeological digs – to name a few. I have loved every minute of it!”

Over the next few month we will be exploring the Cooper archives and sharing the story that Marcia has captured for us through daily posts on our Instagram page.

 

“Vital Signs” in Diaz Gallery

Two centuries of commercial signs at the Cooper Adobe complex.

For almost two hundred years a variety of businesses have occupied the Spear Warehouse and Corner Store within the Cooper Adobe Complex.

In 1836 Nathan Spear opened a store in the Spear Warehouse with partners Jacob Primer Leese and William Hinkley. Over the next century a hotel, restaurant and bar, Ballet studio and boys club welcomed the Monterey community.

The Corner store, built by Manuel Diaz, has housed general merchandise stores, a real estate office, a gift store and now Alta Bakery. To attract customers, business owners employed a variety of advertising signs, trademarks and slogans which can be seen in this exhibit.

Participants will have free admission to all historic locations on a scavenger hunt list. Visit 25 historic sites and become a part of Monterey’s rich past. Come back to the Cooper Adobe after the hunt for the answers to the questions on your hunt packet and an awards ceremony for the winners!
